Here are some Cicadas (also known as Locusts) that I found while Cicada hunting with my Dad. We went about 20 minutes after it got dark. We used flashlights and a net to scoop them off of the trees without harming them. Here they are crawling all around. They were crawling like crazy!
Here is one that is starting to come out of it's shell. This is the really neat part. It takes about 3-4 hours for them to break open their shells until they are ready for flight.

Here is a couple that has already pumped up their wings and now are drying them for flight. I have them hanging from my window screen.

Adult cicadas are stocky insects with prominent eyes and semi-transparent wings which fold against the body. Brown-black or greenish. Sometimes yellow on thorax and mouthparts. The wings are a brownish green.
Cicada's can be found around treas and other natural habitat.
Adults do not eat. Nymphs feeds on juices from roots while still in the ground.
Listen...you hear that high pitched shrill up in the trees? That's the Cicadas you are hearing. Only the males can make sounds. They are letting all the other Cicadas that they are there.
Cicada's are one of my most favorite critters. I am sure I will be talking about them quite a bit!
